Mass Interconnect Glossar

The key terms briefly explained

ATE Automatic Test Equipment

Automatic Test Equipment refers to metrological equipment for testing during production in the chip and electronics industry. For example, integrated circuits are tested via the wafer or chip and module test, and analog components are tested in the soldered state.

Cable assembly

On request, you can receive all ODU solutions including cable assembly. This means you get everything you need from a single source and your interface is ready for immediate use.

Condition monitoring

Condition monitoring makes it possible to check whether the docking process has been completed. This is determined by means of installed microswitches.

Electrical contacts

Turning, milling, and coating. Thanks to our high vertical range of manufacture, the various contact technologies, such as ODU TURNTAC® and ODU LAMTAC®, can be produced internally with high process reliability and in compliance with high quality standards – and are thus among ODU's core competencies.

Electromechanical version

Our innovative electromechanical locking system is unique to date. Rather than being operated via a hand lever, the two sides of the system are connected at the push of a button.

Enclosure (electronics box)

The enclosure is an alternative to the test adapter. Connectors can be attached to the rear of the enclosure as customized solutions to add an additional interface to the test system. This enables the user to test the D/UUT even under challenging conditions, such as high-temperature tests, tests in climatic chambers, or end-of-line tests.

Floating support (tolerance compensation)

The ODU-MAC® Black-Line interface provides 12 individual floating docking frames. Each frame is equipped with guiding pins and has a radial play of +/-0.6 mm. This enables a smooth mating process.

Hand lever

The mechanical version of the ODU-MAC® Black-Line receiver corresponds to the design commonly used on the market. The receiver and adapter sides are connected to one another via the hand lever and the tensioning mechanism.

ITA (Interchangeable Test Adapter Frame)

The interchangeable test adapter provides the connection from the receiver to the test adapter or from the receiver to the enclosure.

Keyboard tray

This is an accessory that is placed under the platform of the receiver. A PC keyboard can be safely and conveniently stowed here.

Mass Interconnect System

These systems are used in test and measurement engineering to test printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electronically assembled units. They serve as the interface between the device/unit under test and the test instruments.

Modules

The modules can be easily and customized and combined according to the modular principle. They enable the transmission of signals, power, high current, high voltage, RF signals (coax), media such as air or fluids, data, vacuum, and fiber optics.

Platform

The platform is an accessory that is installed on the receiver. The adapter can be positioned on this for additional guidance during the mating process. Alternatively, a suspended version is available, which dispenses with the platform.

Rack assembly

The receiver in the rack variant is installed directly on the control cabinet by means of a mounting plate.

Receiver

The system interface, which is located on the side of the test equipment. It is often installed in test cabinets.

Resistance coding or RFID

The coding ensures that the matching receivers and adapters are always connected to each other. Alternatively, the use of RFID coding is also possible.

Signal block

The signal block is not modular and offers an enormously high contact density. Thus, up to 384 contacts can be accommodated in one block. The larger interface can accommodate a total of up to 4,608 signal contacts.

Slide mount

A receiver with a slide mount allows quick access, for example during assembly or servicing, as it can be detached from the control cabinet.

Tensioning points

Eight tensioning points or tensioning hooks on the system ensure uniform tensioning and thus a reliable connection with high contact safety.
